        They killed Sadat

Tuesday 6 October 1981. It was 1:01 pm in Cairo when, during a military parade, several men opened fire with automatic weapons on the Egyptian President Anwar El-Sadat. In the midst of the general panic, Sadat was evacuated to the Cairo military hospital by helicopter. The news is announced shortly afterwards: the president is no more. A look back on an episode that had world-wide repercussions. The assassination of Sadat was above all that of a great reconciler, the statesman who had enabled peace between those close enemies, Israel and Egypt. A statesman who had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1978, after having signed the famous Camp David Accords. A statesman who, throughout his presidency, had fought against religious fundamentalism.

With the participation of Jihane El-Sadat, President Sadat's widow; Montasser El-Zayat, lawyer; Ahmed Fouly, President Sadat's bodyguard; Alain Duhamel, political journalist; Jacques Attali, former advisor to President François Mitterrand.
