        Oryx: the departed

        Before disappearing in 1982, the Arabian oryx, an elegant black and white-coated antelope, inhabited the desert expanses of the Arabian Peninsula. Today, thanks to breeding programmes in captivity, the species has been reintroduced in Abu Dhabi and will once again roam the Wadi Rum desert in Jordan.
