        Cultivated mussels

        Here in Brittany, in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc, is one of France's major mussel cultivation sites. The mussels grow in the open sea, according to the tides, on marine pilings known as bouchots. This technique, imported from Ireland in the 13th century, is still used by the Desbois family.
